Tonight's Poet Corner: Sonnet Solstice #398

The Stomach Pains by Belinda Roddie The stomach pains almost made Susie faint, as she swayed on the toilet - cold basin meeting cold body, eyes on flaking paint and linoleum. With a thin, strained grin, she fought back curses just as she restrained herself from vomiting. She would expel the demons from her, even if they gained sentience and warred with her. Aye, to Hell with the sharp agony. Her husband came to hold her against her chest. She would not fall on his watch. She battled fear and shame until, at last, the worst of it all stopped. The stomach pains were almost like God's hate - or maybe it was something that she ate.
