Tonight's Poet Corner: Sonnet Solstice #403

This Race
by Belinda Roddie

This race to the finish is well deserved,
as I have dealt with quite a crazy year,
and while my summer rest has been well earned,
I do have things to say for you to hear:
Fuck all those who are two-faced, and forget
about success if you can't compromise
or collaborate with your peers. I bet
some of my students will still win the "prize"
while drinking entitlement through a straw,
but I can only hope that they will learn,
perhaps the hard way, that they cannot claw
their way to the top without getting burned
for their arrogance. Now, I'm feeling cool
as I move on to a much better school.
