Tonight's Poet Corner: Sonnet Solstice #498

The Twenty-Fifth
by Belinda Roddie

The twenty-fifth brought a few surprises
to our home, where the aroma of sweet
almond meringue cookies sat in noses
and the taste in our contented bellies.
First, Father returned home after a week
of illness, and he prepared a dinner
fit for, in our opinion, royalty.
Then our family cat began to purr,
something it had not done in o'er a year,
while my brother remembered how to sing
and performed for us. Now we knew our ears
would also tingle with delight. A ring
to end the evening? Yes, upon my life,
Sal's girlfriend decided to be her wife.
