Tonight's Poet Corner: Introspection

Not too much rambling tonight since I'd like to get this done even though it's technically Saturday now. Yay, being sidetracked by family, friends, and volunteer work. Oh, and my training for my new job starts October 7th. Yay!

This week has been a time of seeing family. I've had dinner and drinks with my cousins twice removed. I've learned more about my ancestors and my closer family. My grandmother, whose ring I wear on a chain around my neck. I never got to meet her, so it's the closest way I can bond with her. That, and learning everything I can about her vibrant spirit.

I've been able to see my sister as well, who's busy with a musical in the East Bay. Spending time with my mother, who will be in England and then Italy for two weeks - lucky woman. And my father and brother, too, as we'll be going to San Francisco to hear Earl Klugh play. It's been a stressful week, but also a nice one. Then again, that's what happens when your girlfriend is far away, your friends are going through harsh times, and you feel all-around pressured to succeed at a very young age.

Nice to slow down and relax, eh? I'll be working on that, especially once I'm getting paychecks from my job. But now, the recommendations for tonight's Poet Corner:

Recommended Book: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
A bloodbath of a book but difficult to put down. Left me emotionally winded for some time. And it's a trilogy, too!

Recommended Poet: Robert Frost
Peaceful, classic poetry. Try to look at his lesser known poetry; "The Road Less Traveled" is a poem that is, I will admit, way too dissected and analyzed.

Recommended Music: Ella Fitzgerald
Best vocal jazz artist of our time? ...Is the Pope Emperor Palpatine - I mean, Catholic?

Recommended Drink before Bed: Butterscotch Schnapps
Maybe with some Bailey's mixed in. Don't drink if you're underage, but if you're old enough, you're in for a treat.

Writer's Quotation of the Night:

The poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese.
- Gilbert K. Chesterton

Also, is it just me, or was that article on Martinez and beavers in the SF Chronicle one of the silliest reads ever?

Have a great night and a great weekend, everyone.
