Tonight's Poet Corner: Sonnet Solstice #394

I Missed My Train by Belinda Roddie I missed my train and had to walk ten miles back home, my breath hanging in spikes around my head. My skin was as cold as the tiles in my bathroom. Crispy ice on the ground crackled beneath my boots. The dead of night was not a friend to me, and so I crept down the safest streets I could find. No light emerged from the houses; my neighbors slept peacefully - no bad dreams for them, while I was left to cope with shadows with two heads clinging to street lamps, letting out a sigh loud and sad enough to provoke the dead to final tears. Fear danced inside my brain, and I wished for a bed inside that train.
