It was nonsensical to delve into the books now, as the hours were slipping by fast like rain against glass, and the merciless ticking of the grandfather clock was more curmudgeonly than fatherly. We huddled together on the carpet regardless, the tomes surrounding us but unread. At this point, we would learn nothing. We could learn nothing. Our brains were frozen.
