Segments

My blog featured multiple "segments" in which I wrote based on topic, suggestion, or whim. Below is a breakdown of each segment and when they happened during the week.

Ten Word Tales
Every day, I posted a story consisting only of ten words. No prompts. No extra rules. Just a very straightforward and very short piece of flash fiction every day.

This used to be only a Friday occurrence until I retired the OneWord segment because...y'know...oneword™ wasn't getting updated or even functioning as a website.

 Poet Corner
Every weeknight, I posted something relevant to poetry for "Poet Corner." This could have been an original poem (or on very rare occasions, a collaborative original poem or a guest's original poem), an addition to "Sonnet Solstice," or an end-of-the-week "Introspection," where I summarized my current situation, thoughts on writing, and whatever recommendations I had for the night.

Occasionally, I would have guests (mostly my wife) write poems in my place. Because sometimes, I was just too tired or uninspired to be poetic.

Freeform Fridays
A segment introduced in January of 2020, I took time now on Friday to...well, write whatever! Could have been another poem, could have been a little story or anecdote, could even have been a series of puns. It was my world, and y'all were just living in it.

 Storyteller
Before every Saturday, I would ask for an opening line or prompt for a story from peers or followers. When I found one I liked, I would use it for a "Storyteller," where I would write a piece of fiction based on the prompts I received. Obviously, readers who sent me opening lines may not have expected the kind of story I ended up producing with said lines or ideas, but they would receive credit for their creative offerings.

Sometimes, I would write a Storyteller without a prompt; this may have been due to personal choice or the inability to find an appropriately inspiring opening line on time. On occasion, if I was working on a larger project, there would not be a Storyteller but instead an announcement or series of updates about said project.

 OneWord (Retired)
Based on the daily prompts from the oneword™ website, I posted my responses to the daily word every single day, written within a strict sixty second time frame. Readers would expect OneWord blog entries in the morning or afternoon, depending on when the site is updated and what my schedule was.

While I officially retired this segment after oneword™ was not updated for almost a year, due to the site restarting its prompts, I have created an all new blog devoted entirely to OneWord posts. Click here to read some hot new

Whims of the Time Traveler (Retired)
A less common segment, "Whims of the Time Traveler" occurred every Friday in which I posted a poem, short story, or essay from my past (at least one year before the current year). These writings were not edited or altered - save for some slight mechanical fixes such as spelling and punctuation - instead presented in the way they were written originally during that specific year. This gave me a chance to display my writing throughout the years, revealing how it used to be and how it changed over time.

I retired this segment in October of 2014, after I ran out of archived works to post.
