Tonight's Poet Corner: Sonnet Solstice #186

We Slept by Belinda Roddie We slept together 'til the sun came up, and the creatures of the world crawled over to our cot. I swore that one of them spoke, and it was telling its swarm to attack. That's why I jumped up and began to scream, which only strengthened the animals' wrath, and when I unsheathed my sword, there you were, already loading arrows on your bow, three at a time. The beasts were quite impressed, I think, by our cajones, and so they withdrew, but I was sure they would return, so I told you we needed to pack up and leave for other meadows. Or perhaps I'm still asleep, or my sanity's lapsed.
