Tonight's Poet Corner: Sonnet Solstice #249

She Was Weeping by Belinda Roddie She was weeping beside her girlfriend's grave when you approached, hands hidden in gloves and face behind a scarf. You wouldn't say a word to her - you couldn't. All the loves in the world could not redeem what she lost, so you just sat beside her as she cried, remembering that night and how it cost her everything after her girlfriend died. She had laid roses across the black soil, their petals quivering in the light breeze, her eyes wet and her damp hair slick as oil against her scalp, the dirt scraping her knees as she knelt by the tombstone. You exhaled and walked away. Your logic had prevailed.
