Tonight's Poet Corner: Desperate Feeding

Desperate Feeding
by Belinda Roddie

a desperate feeding frenzy
occurred
on the corner of 5th and Lockwood Street
where
free hot dogs were being given out
by the lonely street vendor
eager for attention.

the forty-or-so
juvenile boys from the
local Christian academy
gorged themselves on processed pork
and fatty mustard delights,
yellow and red glistening
on both corners of their mouths
and cheeks.

an ambulance was called
when one boy got very sick
and his eyes rolled
in the back of his head,
all while the vendor beamed happily
at the fact that someone seemed to
care about his little stand.
