Tonight's Poet Corner: Introspection

It has been a very nice, mostly relaxing week off. Yes, some of it may have been a little too low-key for my tastes - after all, I didn't exactly stray away from my little suburban hobbit hole save for when I took two college friends to San Francisco and then welcomed back a friend from her stay in Italy last Sunday (that day was awesome, by the way, save for the food poisoning). So I did get to see friends, and I did get to spend a lot of quality time with my siblings, and I actually cooked more than usual! Imagine that! With my busy schedule, it's hard to come home in time to make dinner for the family, so I only end up cooking once a week. But this week was an exception.

My parents are in Southern California taking care of some things and seeing some friends, so it's been me, my sister, and my brother in the house. Without too much work overloading me, I've been able to chill, do some reading, continue writing, play guitar and sing a bit, and really consider the path of publishing again. I got in touch with a former professor of mine, and he gave me some really great feedback on how to go about sending out my two completed novels, one being LGBT-oriented and another one being generally Young Adult in terms of genre. The former will be sent off to smaller publishing houses because, well, there ain't much of a market for that, unfortunately. The other one will be trickier. It will require seeking out an agent, lots of writing, lots of mailing, and a lot of time and patience. And I don't just mean days or weeks or months; I mean years.

I have, as of tonight, submitted my LGBT novel to one publishing house, one I actually sent my novella manuscript to even though it got rejected. Obviously, my Young Adult novel still needs a lot of editing. Hell, it still needs a freaking title. But it's good to have a structure and a step by step outline from my professor to help me out. Thanks, Jim. You're awesome.

So, yeah. What with break cooling me down, I don't have a huge amount to report, which could be good or bad (but in this case is good). I've been keeping in touch with my local and SoCal friends (Skype chat with my buddy José was fantastic), missing my girlfriend like crazy, and of course scribbling down non-sequiturs every day for you peeps to scan and scrutinize and shake your heads at. Oh, but I did get my CBEST scores and while they weren't the best, I still passed! Yay! So that was one hundred dollars properly spent. Now the CSET...that's gonna be a doozy. 7:30 AM on a Saturday in Windsor, paper-based? Huh-freaking-zah!

Have a great night and a great weekend, everyone.
