Tonight's Poet Corner: Self-Conscious

Self-Conscious
by Belinda Roddie

I wrapped myself up in bandages
so no one could see the blue veins crawling
out from my neck like spiders with their
silken tails trailing after them. I want
to inject my natural tattoos with ink
so the black can spread to my face, but
the toxins would cause asphyxiation, so
I'm better off looking permanently damaged
than winding off permanently dead.
