Tonight's Poet Corner: Sonnet Solstice #248

God Damn It
by Belinda Roddie

God damn it, I was dying when you found
me on the street corner, bleeding through my
new jacket. I could listen to the sound
of your voice all night as you held me. By
the time the ambulance arrived, you were
holding my hand and carrying me to
the stretcher. I woke up seeing a blur
of lights and nurses' faces. I saw you
sitting behind my bed, the flowers red
and blue on the table. I knew I had
to know your name, the thoughts inside your head,
the look on your face. I saw you were clad
in black and purple. When you said, "Hello,"
all I could reply with was, "My hero."
