Tonight's Poet Corner: Sonnet Solstice #294
If I Were A Man
by Belinda Roddie
If I were a man, I know you would swoon
for me the moment that you learned my name.
Like Jimmy Stewart, I'd promise the moon
and put your petty suitors all to shame
with my charm and my dashing, dapper looks.
I'd dress in suits and pour you dry champagne
on balconies, and then I'd read you books
of adventure and satire, while the rain
cascaded down in ribbons on the glass
beside the bed where we would cuddle. Then
I'd make you pancakes. Later, I would ask
to go on strolls for you, and at night, when
the city's lively, we would dance. But no,
I'm not a man, though I still love you so.
