Tonight's Poet Corner: Sonnet Solstice #304

Don't Wake Me
by Belinda Roddie

Don't wake me up just yet. I'll hibernate
for seven winters - then I'll readapt
when braver souls work to defenestrate
the demons that have built homes on the path
that leads to light. Once my memory's lapsed,
I'll play pretend and force myself to think
that the weeds growing from the pavement cracks
are there to make each paranoia shrink
into fine particles. I'll head out West
and act like there's still a frontier to breach.
I'll leave my poor wife - I would think it best
that my unstable soul be out of reach
of anyone who has a heart to save
or a life to enjoy before the grave.
