Tonight's Poet Corner: The Christening

The Christening
by Belinda Roddie

I named this child Adonis
not because they are beautiful
nor because they will be gored
by some temperamental boar who needs
to take anger management classes
but because one day

they will inherit everything I have
which is the world
every ocean and mountain
and every piece of sky
collected like glass over the past
seven centuries

Adonis shall have it all
and they shall truly be granted
the title of Lord
