Tonight's Poet Corner: Fourth

Fourth
by Belinda Roddie

Welcome home, my love.
Come, strip the dragons
off your feet, and roll the
denim on your sleeves.
Independence Day is here.

We'll climb the purple
mountains after our cup
of afternoon tea. If that's
too British for you, I could
hardly give one iota of a damn.

The fireworks will get loud
between nine thirty and ten
PM. Hold hands with me if
you're scared, but don't forget
to patriotically scream.
