Tonight's Poet Corner: Early Celebration

Early Celebration
by Belinda Roddie

The day before Thanksgiving, we
sat around a table with a broken
leaf, devouring the typical staples
of the holiday, enjoying the family
vibe and the camaraderie.

The day before Thanksgiving, we
heard retail horror tales, got
to dance to jazz and the Beatles,
and heated up our bones with
both sustenance and booze.

The day before Thanksgiving, I
remembered why I love you, and
you remembered why you love me,
and we settled down in front of
the fire with our tired heads
brimming with more stories.
