Tonight's Poet Corner: Wailing With Wassail

Wailing With Wassail
by Belinda Roddie

They say a hot mulled cider
is good for stopping tears, cinnamon
strong enough to conquer woes
and regrets about the night you
took your brother's wife to bed.

See, if you pour some special
Christmas charm into the mug,
straight out of a crystal vial,
the potion can do wonders for
your stomach, brewing up

a pot of courage that can
easily freeze over in the
winter breeze. There, look:
Here she comes now, skipping
to the Yuletide reel, ready

to sing a carol with you, drink
wassail with you, toast to
a better harvest with you, while
you wait for the heat to settle
so you can hide away in the snow.
