Tonight's Poet Corner: One Way

One Way
by Belinda Roddie

Let me play The Levellers
on a level playing field
and not just for the sake of a poor man's
plague time memorial.

I promise I can produce some bangers
on vocals and guitars,
wearing the same cap and jacket
as the blokes getting blitzed in bars.

I won't know much stubborn city smog
or prevailing factory spills,
but I'll remember pretending to be a punk
when I fit the goodie-two-shoes bill.
