Saturday's Storyteller: "I've been drinking, and I feel helpful."

by Belinda Roddie

I've been drinking, and I feel helpful. I sweep up glass that's never been broken. I dust a table that's nothing but splinters after my father's screaming and my mother's weeping. I clean up missing pieces that no one else but me.

I wash every dish, every chalice, every vessel that contains my vital organs, my feelings, and everything last impulse that Mr. Id tucked away under the neverending folds of his jacket.

Hello, Mr. Id.

Shall we open another bottle?

This week's prompt was provided by Arden Roddie and Allie Kilzer.
