Tonight's Poet Corner: Numerical Compulsion

Numerical Compulsion
by Belinda Roddie

The demand for certain numbers -
ten days instead of nine,
five dollars instead of two,
perfect zeroes nestled to the right
of a calculator's decimal point -

is like having multiple rusty nails
routinely hammered into one's shoulders
and lower back during the worst,
and definitely most unethical,
acupuncture session ever.
