Tonight's Poet Corner: Introspection

This introspection is certainly written far earlier than the evening, but starting from early Friday afternoon, I will be without internet until Sunday. I will be celebrating the new year up north with my family, friend, and girlfriend where there are no computers or TV. Which is nice. As a result, there will be no OneWord blog entries for Friday and Saturday. Storyteller will be a day late. I know I intended to post every day, but sometimes life demands a break or vacation from even creative outlets. So once I'm back and provided that my house hasn't been broken into during our trip (yay, irrational worrying), I will be back to posting on Sunday. A lot of things sort of blew up in my face this week. As a result, I'm back to square one in multiple ways. It's injured me mentally and emotionally, and the sting may not go away for some time. Tonight's Poet Corner: Introspection

Wow. It is the first day of school at my new job on Monday. I will be working with over 120 students this year, teaching four sections of English Language Arts 10 and, of course, one section of Yearbook. I have used so much paper printing out syllabus after syllabus, class contracts, and first week assignments. I have structured my English curriculum for the first semester and begun designing skill-building sessions for Yearbook. I have even started tidying up my classroom (though I'm definitely going to get my students to help "create the space" - totally not just a cop-out for me doing it). I am taking a no-nonsense, yet loving, approach to my Yearbook class, and while I will certainly include some of that in English, I will also have to be mindful of the many sophomores who have IEPs and Section 504s in my classes. Tonight's Poet Corner: Introspection

All right, lovelies. It's official. I will not be returning to my high school campus for the rest of the school year. It's weird, for lack of a better word. It's just weird. Discombobulating? Disorienting? Guess I had more words than I thought. Anyway, today, I drove up to the high school I work at and picked up a few things. Being in my classroom for the first time in three weeks...it definitely made me feel a wee bit sentimental, I'll tell you that right now. No amount of work I do online for my students is going to compensate for being physically present for kids who really need said presence. I'm trying very hard to stay confident that, ultimately, my fellow citizens will be wise enough to take this pandemic seriously. Arden and I don't walk much beyond our neighborhood these days.
