Tonight's Poet Corner: Sonnet Solstice #483

We Drank Hot Cocoa
by Belinda Roddie

We drank hot cocoa, spiked, late through the night
and listened to Christmas carols until
our eyelids grew heavy and our breaths light.
You helped me up the stairs, the windowsill
in our bedroom frosted; you tucked me in
and sang to me as we both braved the chill
and the heat of the blankets graced my chin.
My episode had not quite ended yet,
and so you remained patient with me as
I slipped into dreams where I'd forget,
though temporarily, my new faux pas.
Winter approached, and still, we both kept warm,
making hot cocoa through personal storms.
