Tonight's Poet Corner: The Kite

The Kite
by Belinda Roddie

and they looked up,
and the kite in the shape of a rainbow
fluttered in the confines of its own covenant,

soaked in unseasonal sunlight as
January slept through its obligations
and belched fumes of carbon dioxide.

and lo and behold,
the kite kept flying,
impervious to the curious gaze
of a canine and the amused
smile of her owner, the latter

of which, despite the mask, was given
away by the twinkle in her eyes
and the light breaths of hope
bubbling brightly enough to be bottled.

and so we watched, together at last,
as the kite kissed the sky,
and the endless blue consented for today,
at least for today, for the sake of fabulosity.
