Tonight's Poet Corner: Number One Jam

Number One Jam by Belinda Roddie Two hearts dangle from a guitar's fretboard in the tiny studio where you record a song that's meant to be about me, but in the end, the lyrics, once strung together, weave a picture of you instead.

No OneWord update today. We seem to be falling into a temporary every other day pattern. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Today's OneWord: Peripheral

I could see the mob approaching out of my peripheral vision. I could definitely hear them. The scraping of their sneakers, the animalistic howls bursting from their raw, constricted throats. They brandished signs like they were both swords and shields, weapons and protection. I tried not to pay attention to the words they screamed or the slogans they waved around. I tried to remember the light ahead of me, rather than focus on the darkness behind me.

Saturday's Storyteller: "Stop gawking at the blueberry puddings, we're going to be late!"

by Belinda Roddie Stop gawking at the blueberry puddings, we're going to be late! Here, take my hand. I know, those little cakes are to die for, are they not? They leave a colorful sweetness in your mouth that not even the strongest coffee can wash away. Come on, let's head to the car so we can see your father. Awfully cold, isn't it, dear? It's not all politics - some of it is more personal or related to my work. Just know that I'm okay and that I'll be trying to make next week be more about moving forward rather than about hesitating or getting fixated on one thing. I will be able to find more enjoyment out of my days. I just have to focus on the good over the bad. There are wonderful people in my country and this world at large. I have to remember that. Have a great night and a great weekend, everyone.

Friday's Ten Word Tales: You're That Bad

You're That Bad by Belinda Roddie I never wished death on anyone. Until I met you.
