Tonight's Poet Corner: Mindless Zombies

Mindless Zombies by Belinda Roddie You might say that the mindless zombies are the ones with their eyes Elmer glued to their smartphones. You might add, with sass, that the mindless zombies are the ones whose "eyes glaze over" from the vibrant TV screens. Perhaps, in the end, you'll retort that the mindless zombies are the ones who "like" every single post, but little do you know that the "mindless zombies" are more connected than before, and the human experience nourishes than better than brains; they cherish moments with friends more than feasting on cerebral cortices - and in the end, you are the mindless one for spewing your bullshit on Twitter with the hashtag stamped into your quivering poor excuse for a gray matter ideology dressed up as "wisdom."

Today's OneWord: Nutrition

Tell me, how does holding a banquet in your honor serving as nutrition to my allegedly "emaciated" enlightenment? And why does said banquet provide the head of a pig, which looks remarkably like the head of my father, before he passed away? I see you at the table, commemorating "long forgotten glory," while I debate which tine on my fork shall enter your left eyeball first.

Today's OneWord: Strengthen

I ran three miles a day, ate nothing but the nutritious food, drank water, and sipped milk to strengthen my bones. And yet, I was fat. I weighed a lot more than I had when I hadn't worked out, and all I could do was determine that the more powerful I got, the bigger I got. So I pumped iron until my arms were as big as my head and my gut protruded proudly from above my belt.

Saturday's Storyteller: "I'm gonna get some more brownie bites."

by Belinda Roddie "I'm gonna get some more brownie bites," said my wife, as she began to head downstairs. "Fine," I replied. "I'll get myself some whiskey." "Okay." "Okay?" "Okay!" "Oooookay." "O kay!" " O-kay!" "Okay..." Then she started singing a song from the musical, Bat Boy. That's it. That's the story. Now go to bed. This week's prompt was provided by Arden Roddie...and the whole story was pretty much an exchange between the two of us minutes ago. Am I running out of ideas already?

Tonight's Poet Corner: Introspection

I made it through my first week of teaching at my new school site! Interesting to work with both seniors and freshmen. Got some fun and great students - we'll see what happens when we get down to true business. Next Tuesday will be awesome - my novel is officially released then! I'll have links when they are ready and appropriate. Anyway, I'm tired. Sleep beckons. Tomorrow, I'm going to be a pro at doing absolutely nothing significant. Have a great night and a great weekend, everyone!

Friday's Ten Word Tales: Orientation

Orientation by Belinda Roddie The first week was pretty successful. Now for the plunge.
