Tonight's Poet Corner: Sonnet Solstice #488

These Past Two Weeks by Belinda Roddie These past two weeks have been a dumpster fire of epic proportions - from Trumpsters fiends storming the Capitol to certain ire from Congressmen (too late, we shall repeat), to friends and family trying to cope with troubling times - can we just have a break? 2020 was the end of our rope, but we've been given string already frayed to hold ourselves up. I propose a toast to those who have not survived this deluge, as well as to those who have lived to boast of dreams for better days. We shall conclude our remote feast tonight on red alert, preparing for the worst over dessert.

Tonight's Poet Corner: Sleep Tight

Image
Sleep Tight by Belinda Roddie Bleary eyed, I craned my head to look outside. Neighborhood cats claimed their domain in my backyard. They demanded respect and also pets, but it was too cold, so I declined. For once, I planned to sleep before midnight. For once, I planned to dream non-stressful dreams. Dreams that would keep me away from classrooms and old family homes. Dreams that would put energy in my gut rather than weariness in my bones. Because nothing is much worse than waking up more exhausted than the night before.
