Tonight's Poet Corner: There Was A Time

There Was A Time
by Belinda Roddie

There was a time one night
right around
midnight
when the air
was a skin-tight
fabric on my shoulders,
I felt so much
older
than I should have felt,

and my
teeth were made of
velcro and
stuck together, so who the Hell
knows whether my prose means
anything to
anyone on this
bit of land we call home. And I thought,

Hey, some things you can
pray for,
prove, or
deduce, but what comes
loose is when we try to
fathom
the core.
And I adore

attempts, but the
depths of the
oceanic cosmos won't be tapped in my time. So this time,

I'll keep my pretty thoughts
in a box
safe for keeping.
