Tonight's Poet Corner: Swollen Bridge

Swollen Bridge
by Belinda Roddie

No amount of traffic warnings can
stop this particular jam,
inflammation reddening the roads
with armored husks of microbes
maneuvering their way into a tired face
to push the tops of cheeks outward
in a chipmunk half-chew. Hot water
flows from a coffee cup, and the
splotches on the tissue paper freeway grow
damper and deeper with a storm.
Tablets are needed to punch the system.
Bring back to full capacity. Now.
