Tonight's Poet Corner: Introspection

So. It's 2013. We didn't die in a pseudo-apocalypse, we're dealing with a pretty inept Congress, and I frankly am never giving up the occasional drink, stroke of a pen, or obsessive editing mindset as I peruse my already completed works.

Yes, 2012 has been a very productive year for me, writing-wise and otherwise. I have been a member of AmeriCorps since August of 2012, promoting literacy for second grade girls who are Spanish speakers and English learners. I have written two novels in one year (one in a month, one in eight days). I have never ceased in filling this blog space with new and up to date pieces of poetry, random sloppy pieces of fiction, and short tidbits influenced by the structure and format of OneWord.com. I have been with my girlfriend for over a year and a half now. I still live at home, but I'm looking at graduate and credential programs now to further my teaching and writing careers.

All in all, not bad for a year's work. Really. I'm pretty hard on myself and I'm very self-deprecating about 70% of the time, but I can even say that  I'm impressed with myself. No matter how tough it's been on occasion, nothing can change the fact that 2012 was a game-changer for me. I completed my first two novels ever, after so many years of retaining a fear of fiction. I got closer to new friends while maintaining contact with my college buddies. I know that I will continue to struggle with where I am now in my career path, especially financially. But I know who my real friends are and who really loves me and who will be there for me whenever I stumble.

I'm really looking forward to a very dynamic 2013. My girlfriend will be graduating in June. My job commitment ends in July. I don't know where I'll go after that, but I know who will join me on my future adventures. For now, it's still January, and I am still writing, and I am still teaching, and I am still creating, and no matter how many tears I shed, I am always loving life.

Here's to a successful, love-filled, and inspiring new year. Not just to me, but to everyone else who stumbles across this humble blog. Thank you for being there for me, and thank you for being you.

Writer's Quotation of the Night:

I put all my genius into my life; I put only my talent into my works.
- Oscar Wilde

Have a great night and a great first weekend of 2013, everyone.
