Tonight's Poet Corner: Sonnet Solstice #114

She Drank The Potion
by Belinda Roddie

She drank the potion and transformed into
a girl not much more than thirteen years old.
That way, she could pickpocket one or two
taller men out of a few coins of gold.
To be younger was both gift and curse, so
she looked forward to aging yet again
and taking a second chance for a beau
and money, though stolen, to reinvent
her livelihood. Slowly, however, the
tonic surprisingly wore off, and while
she aged at the same pace, her luck was rubbed
away, and as gold disappeared, the bile
rose in her throat. Not even a small joy
could be found in a lovesick puppy boy.
