Tonight's Poet Corner: Sonnet Solstice #258

She Quit Her Job
by Belinda Roddie

She quit her job and bought a pack of smokes
before hopping on her red bicycle,
but something rough got all caught in the spokes,
so she lost her balance and then she fell,
hitting her head. Luckily, she was fine,
though her family wasn't very fond
of her coming home for a bit of time
while she looked at job options. Near the pond,
she'd settle down in the mornings to watch
the ducks swim and the reeds sway in the wind.
Why did she leave her career? It was not
easy, but she felt like she was trapped in
a cage of her making, and now she
was glad to have left, because she was free.
