Tonight's Poet Corner: Introspection

Guys - it was another deadline week.

I think you know how this introspection is gonna go down. Not a lot of text; not a lot of detail. Not a lot of actual introspection. I'm exhausted. In other news, cows produce milk.

I honestly think a lot of my introspections will be a bit stunted like this until after April - that's when the yearbook will be done and things will start to settle down. The good news is that I've started to recruit students for next year - students that I hope will be more dedicated and focused without letting senioritis consume them.

Not to say there aren't great students in my Yearbook class right now. But there are only fourteen of them, and some of them...don't do much. Which makes an impact.

Meanwhile, I've been writing spoken word a lot more due to doing a spoken word/performance poem and speech unit with my English students. I have one of my poems - "Trinity" - almost entirely memorized so I can perform it in front of my classes. A student of mine read it and apparently was wowed - and after that, I helped her with writing her own. So that was awesome.

Anyway. I hopefully am seeing my aunt tomorrow, and Sunday, I'll be hanging out with two wonderful friends of mine. So I'm trying to relax as much as possible this weekend while also knowing how much work I have to do.

And it's not just Yearbook stuff, mind you. I have to grade op-eds...give feedback to poems and speeches...make sure I'm well fed and well rested...being a teacher is hard, folks. It's like adulthood on steroids.

But that's that from me. I'm already fading, and it's not even 10:30 PM yet (which is actually past my bedtime, but you know, sometimes I like remembering my night owl years). In the meantime, try to be happy and do your best to stomach the usual nonsense from our cryptofascist regime in America. Way to end on a positive note, Roddie.

Have a great night and a great weekend, everyone. Catch y'all later.

Oh, sweet mother of Christ, it's already February. What gives, Father Time?!
