Tonight's Poet Corner: Sonnet Solstice #340
This Wasn't Meant
by Belinda Roddie
This wasn't meant to happen overnight;
I thought that it would take a week or two,
just so I could make each little thing right
and I could get that much closer to you.
Before the sun even began to set,
you said you wanted to go home with me,
and now that you are sleeping in my bed,
euphoria's turned to epiphany:
I never thought that this would move so fast,
and, come to think of it, I'm pretty scared.
Did I love you that much to make it last,
or would I make a mess if I so dared
to whisper such a loaded word today?
I don't know if that's a price I can pay.
