Tonight's Poet Corner: The River

The River
by Belinda Roddie

There's a river that will give you
splinters when you swim in it, under
a sun that gives you goosebumps, and
if you row your boat steadily, you will
find the promised land. Jam the honeycomb
into your mouth, and you'll be startled by
the bitterness of the sugar. There is nothing
sweet here - nothing warm - nothing smooth
or soothing. Nothing wet. Only bone dry.
