Tonight's Poet Corner: With Love, From Neowise

With Love, From Neowise
by Belinda Roddie

If only I could string a comet
like a yo-yo
and walk it beside me nightly

It would burn
so hot
so bright
I wouldn't need a nightlight

At dusk, I tried to use a rope
or leash
or even sewing thread
to snag the end of its tail
all to no avail

Comets are free
and do not abide
by arbitrary rules
of capitivity
or domestication
or gravity

pulling it down
from its constellations
where it has made itself at home
