Freeform Friday: Second Thoughts
Second Thoughts
by Belinda Roddie
Were she not
already betrothed,
she would deeply love her
tender
She would drape her in
sequins finer in gold,
though the appearance
of cheapness sting
Ah, wife, if only you
understood her
and her needs
and the words
printed out in letters
where ink was irrelevant
to irrational impulses
and desires
But she knows
that what she has
is dearer than any
precious metal
and she'd be a fool
to step away from
King Midas's touch,
purged of recklessness
dipped in wine
and deep thought
and conversation
and mirth
