Tonight's Poet Corner: Cheers

Cheers
by Belinda Roddie

Make me not the predictable lush,
but make me flush with love
at last.

I strip my parts down to bolts,
to a fragile anatomy,
like glass pulled from salt,
from sand, from a god's hand.

I wish for sobriety
when the world I live in
is drunk off its ass
and singing lullabies
to sweet, sweet idiocy.
