Saturday's Storyteller: "That stuff on your face makes you look like an alien."

by Belinda Roddie "That stuff on your face makes you look like an alien." "Yeah, well, your face makes you look like your face!" "Yeah. Very classy, John." "Look, it's exfoliating cream, okay? It's supposed to clean my pores." "Right. And you're smearing it all over the lip of your beer bottle." "It's not that close to my mouth!" "The bottle would disagree." "Aaron. I've got terrible acne. Like, fucking horrid. I look like Deadpool over here." "No, you don't." "Sure I do. I'm gonna be all scarred up just like him." "I knew I shouldn't have taken you to see that movie." "I'm going to buy myself some katanas, too!" "Another reason why I shouldn't have taken you to see it." "Hey. Katanas are awesome, dude. I figured you'd be cool with that." Today's OneWord: Newborn

Duke held the newborn baby in his arms and wondered, quietly, just where this infant would be in twenty years. Outside, it was getting warmer all the time, and the tides were rising bit by bit along the seaside home, threatening to tear it from its footing and send its wooden and concrete legs off balance. Duke looked at his wife, who was still asleep in the little bed they shared, with the midwife wiping her forehead with a wet cloth from time to time.

Tonight's Poet Corner: Introspection

Week went okay. Still breathing, though I had to fight a cold. Had a lot of successful lessons, got to see my students perform some poetry while my mentor teacher and I performed some of our own. Had some great intellectual conversations with my other mentor teacher. I'm working with a few new students at my private school job, and it's fantastic so far. Now I have a lot of work to do for my performance assessment - lot of writing to do, some video reviewing. I won't lie that I'm nervous. I get anxious that I won't pass, but I hope that, when my graders look at my work, they can see that I can succeed as an educator. Have a great night and a great weekend, everyone, and Happy Easter if you celebrate it!

Tonight's Poet Corner: Sonnet Solstice #237

My First Impression by Belinda Roddie My first impression of her was that she had a lot to say, but most of it was just fluff or dust floating in the air. We walked to the dog park and stayed there because she liked watching "those frisky canines play," as she worded it. We kept up small talk until she asked when I knew I was gay, and when I came out. At this, I had to balk - it was none of her business! After that, we grabbed some ice cream at the local shop and kept up our mild and meager chit-chat, about our thankless jobs and such. I stopped mid-sentence when I saw just how she gazed at me - she was in a strange, lovesick daze!
