Tonight's Poet Corner: Introspection

December of 2016 has arrived. That's right, this dumpster fire of a year (save for my credential program and my spectacular wedding) is drawing to a close. Will 2017 be any better? My money's on it being worse overall, especially for minorities and those interested in maintaining their Constitutional rights.

But hey, 2016's been such a ball of crazy that I feel like anything can happen now, even in the last twenty-nine days of the year. We'll see!

Of course, my wife and I have been getting into the Christmas spirit pretty quickly. We got our tree and decorations up two days after Thanksgiving (no shame). We started listening to Christmas carols around that time, too (still no shame). I've already bought a majority of my family and friends' gifts and wrapped them (definitely no shame there; I'm being responsible, damn it). It's nice to enjoy good music and good food and even better company. I do like the holiday season - as long as I remember what it's really about, and everyone else does, too.

This country is so divided and filled with hate right now. Maybe this Christmas season will inject some much needed love into the universe. Or maybe I'm kidding myself.

Either way, lot of novel ideas still bouncing in my head after my failed attempt to do NaNoWriMo. We'll see if any pan out, be it in book form or another multimedia format. I really want to start publishing and producing, but my teaching job - which I admittedly love - eats up a lot of my time. With the election behind me and the uncertainty of my freedom and life ahead, I've been reevaluating my priorities. So far, I've got "I want to be with my wife" at number one. Not sure about everything else.

In the meantime, I hope you all are having a safe and fun December so far. Happy Holidays to you, and have a great night and a great weekend, everyone.
