Tonight's Poet Corner: Introspection

So...where to start?

My Yearbook students are giving me heart palpitations in regards to finishing anything by their first deadline.

A trip in a dunk tank during the Homecoming Carnival ultimately culminated in a trip to the ER because get your ears flushed every year I'm serious guys.

Found out that a couple of students have been trying to insult my identity behind my back, as if accusing me of being transgender or calling me a fat dyke is going to knock me down. Both these students have been through a lot - I get that - but really?

Now I'm at my in-laws' house because it's their annual Halloween party, which I always enjoy, and it's the fifth time I've been a guest. My costume is ready to go, and so is my appetite for all the food and drink.

Oh, and my Yearbook staff is having a Halloween party, too! It's the day right after my in-laws' annual party. So that'll be something - I haven't been to two Halloween parties in a row since college (when I went to three Halloween parties in a row - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, babeh!).

Did I mention that going into a dunk tank resulted in water getting into my ears, which turned a wax build-up into inner gross ear plugs that I had to get removed by a doctor?

Get your ears flushed, people!

Look, I know I can go deeper than this. I know that. All I'm doing is scratching the surface of all the tomfoolery and craziness I've been through just this past month. I'm being shallow about everything from my excitement about Halloween (which, unsurprisingly, is a bit subdued because of how busy I am) to how I'm coping with my job to how I'm trying to get my students to take a deadline seriously and design seriously and writing seriously and coverage seriously and

and now I have to deal with prejudice and hateful words from my own students - who resort to saying it under wraps instead of to my face. Fun stuff, that.

Yeah. I get that I can be more introspective in my introspection.

I'm also running on five hours of sleep after a trip to the ER where I got massive amounts of earwax drained out of my own head.

So I'm not exactly high-energy and feeling writerly tonight, folks.

...Oh, well!

Have a great night and a great weekend, everyone. And Happy Halloween!
