Tonight's Poet Corner: Eucalyptus Candle

Eucalyptus Candle
by Belinda Roddie

It smells
like a potential fireball
kissing California's already
burned bones with smoky lips
and the sickly taste
of gasoline

I told you to cut
those bastards down
before they grew
into dysfunctional families
but now
I let the wax remind me
of colder winters
that I long for more
than anything else
