Tonight's Poet Corner: Christmas Day

Christmas Day
by Belinda Roddie

napkins folded into Christmas trees
duck breast, cauliflower soup,
and sour cream-laden latkes galore
here we are, shielded from the rain and cold,
devouring hot Brie while listening to carols
it is so good to be here with you
and everyone else - family, loved ones,
bundled up and toasting to love and peace
and lighting candles for magic
as those I love pass into a more
extraordinary world, I am thankful
to stay on this speck of lively Earth
for at least a little while longer
