Tonight's Poet Corner: Introspection

I've started an exercise regimen with my sister and a friend. It involves jogging, hiking, walking, biking, core exercises, and weight lifting. We also have drawn up a spreadsheet regarding our goals regarding our weight, strength, and diet. Which means I have to monitor my chocolate more. Which is always difficult. But hey, if it means I can look hot for my girlfriend... ;) Immature thoughts aside, this new work-out schedule makes me feel good. Really good. My anxiety has drastically diminished. I feel calmer, happier, and healthier. And of course I may want something unhealthy from time to time, but I'm now developing awareness of what I eat, how I eat, and what I do to watch and maintain my health and weight. In fact, exercise has even made my allergy symptoms become less and less severe. Who would've thought? Moral of the story: Work out more. But don't be afraid to have a candy bar from time to time as long as you're aware of your health. Yay! And now, ...

Friday's Whims of the Time Traveler 34.0: July 17th, 2007

Lullaby by Belinda Roddie A thousand times I’ve seen these trees, a thousand leaves Have borne me up to greater heights, majestic nights And fireflies’ light And as I drift over where wanderers roam, and frisky gnomes Gather their tools to end the day of work and play So now the world goes to chambers deep To comfort me as I drift to sleep A thousand rays of golden heat and swollen beats Of sun play music on my brow, I drop my plow And saunter now And then I drift to my mother’s lap, while flowers snap Up drops of dusky mist in evening’s bliss Before their petals close and crickets creep Observing me as I drift to sleep I ask to hear a song before I wake A song of peace before the dawn breaks A thousand feet have touched this soil, on which I’ve toiled To grow the seeds I once caressed in hands all dressed In leather best And my eyes drift back to gardening days and farmers gray Who drop their hats to see the sight of lunar light That in the crystal rivers slowly seeps Glowing as...

Today's OneWord: Upright

An upright and noble citizen who wore a fine tweed suit and purple tie - like a lilac sprouting freshly out of gray clouds and mist - approached a man who screamed that God wished that the Jews and gays and Catholics would all die and burn in the fiery pits of Hell. And that citizen held up a sign for the man to read, with three simple, debonair words: "I forgive you."

Tonight's Poet Corner: Sonnet Solstice #34

I Cannot Hate Her by Belinda Roddie I cannot hate her for her face - her looks are as irrelevant as the blue sky when you are in the wrong mood to smile. Books should not be judged by covers, but what lies beneath the folds of paper, where the print leaks out from eyelids, narrow noses, ears or broad foreheads and faces oddly pinched. I could perhaps dislike her for her jeers at boy or girl who she perhaps perceives as lower than her. I could abhor that she breaks poor hearts, or cruelly steals, or cheats, or lies to people whose souls are left cracked and broken, pieces all over the place - but I could never hate her for her face.

Today's OneWord: Hearing

"I have a minimal hearing loss," said Gary, hanging his head in shame. "That's why I talk so funny." He didn't talk that funny. I knew him from Mrs. Lowe's second grade class and all he did was spit a bit when he said s's. I knew when I talked to him, he'd have to ask me to repeat myself because he couldn't hear me right. But I never minded. Not even five years later.

Tonight's Poet Corner: Pretty Monster

Pretty Monster by Belinda Roddie pretty monster likes to sleep in a deep, deep yellow moon. pretty monster plays ukulele and strings green bows in her brown hair. pretty monster kisses men on mouths and watches thorns spring from lip cracks. but pretty monster doesn't understand why people run away from her if she's pretty.
